Why are dealerships so irritatingly spammy when it comes to email communication?

I mean, I have an alternate email account and I only check it once a month or something but even then it’s crazy. All I asked was a simple question on when they’re getting a new model. They sent vague information and I said OK thank you, done. What follows is up to 6 months of non-stop this and that Are you interested? how about now? No? OK how about NOW? Do you have a trade in? we will offer “top dollar” for it! come on down we have deals!, Hey check out these 10 unrelated cars you might be interested in! every. single. week. Are these things automated or some person literally spam customers every single day as part of their job nonstop? God forbid you give them your real phone number.

I’m getting cell phone spammed by the goddamn US Army because I went back to school. This is the world we live in.

*To the recruiter that keeps spamming me: no, a 32 year-old father of two with a degree in physiology and professional job doesn’t want to join a fucking army commanded by Donald Trump. Hit up some white virgin who shitposts on the internet all day.

It’s not just dealers. It’s ANY AND ALL retailers that get your email address.

Why would their email be any different from their regular mail? Aside from not being able to tape fake ignition keys to their message.

Me: I’m looking to get two e-Golfs. I live too far away to come in to talk numbers. I will only be coming in to take delivery.

Salesman: Okay great when can you come in and we can go over numbers.

Me: No.

My other favorite was one dealer responding months later. I literally responded with a picture of the car and the Santa Monica dealer plates proudly displayed and told them Santa Monica responded promptly.

It’s the office email. That can I ignore. But the damn phone calls drove me nuts. Every once in a while I would answer and he literally didn’t understand what “I’m busy, I can’t talk right now.” mean. I just started hanging up on him.

Sirius XM seems to think that I’m my father who  lives in another state, and has a totally different make and model of car. I get every damn paper mail and email regarding his dormant receiver, and they say they can’t do anything about it, since, as far as they can tell, our accounts aren’t actually connected in any way in their systems. Even worse, I’ve recently started getting mailings for my brother, who lives in yet another state and has a totally different name and yet another totally different car.

If there’s no willful unsubscribe button I’ll remind them of the CRT C’s anti-spam legislation, in particular the seven-figure penalties that can be imposed. Seems to work pretty damn well. I don't know if you'll have a similar legislated tool, however.

Yeah, I figured it was for the shop, trying to blackmail you to buy an ad.

I’m generally nice to strangers, but I make an exception for telemarketers. I want them to regret their job choice.

Well clearly not. The hope was that you’d have a similar decision from the FCC or something, but given how much your government seems to care about citizens who aren’t trying to harvest every other citizen’s hard-earned money... yeah, an optimistic  stretch of the imagination, I'll admit.

It is incredibly annoying. I inquired about a car on autotrader that was being sold by a dealer and i asked a few questions in the email. They emailed back with some vague response not even remotely answering any of my questions. I emailed back and said “did anyone even read the message with my questions in it?” I got an apology from a salesman and said he would “look into” the message. I didn’t even bother afterwards. Such incompetence from these dealers and salespeople that it makes buying a car a huge turnoff just knowing i have to deal with these assholes.

It’s not an excuse. I presume that they did horrible things in a past life and deserve it .
